History of Zern Rigging
We have well over three decades of experience
in the marine industry. Starting in 1974, Rick Zern,
an avid sailor from Fort Walton Beach, FL moved to
Pensacola to attend college. That summer he went
to work for Paul Schreck & Company, one of the
country’s leading sailmakers and riggers at that
time. This apprenticeship serves as a strong
foundation for our company today. In subsequent
years Rick gained valuable knowledge as President of
a Horizon Sails franchise in Fort Walton Beach, FL,
V-P of Schurr Sails, V-P of Sales at Sabre Sails,
and as a consultant with Randy Smyth at the Smyth Team. The
partnership of Zern & Bellows Rigging company in
the early 80’s coincided with the growth in popularity
of the sailing industry and the rampant use of modern
sail handling systems.
Much of what we do today consists of commissioning
of new yachts, re-rigging older boats with contemporary
sail-handling systems and in the consultation and implementation
in architectural and marine rigging for both commercial
and recreational vessels.
Rick Zern’s commitment to the yachting community
was recognized in the mid 90’s by receiving Pensacola
Yacht Club’s Yachtsman of the Year award. Highlights
of those accolades follow to serve as a resume of experience
and qualifications of our commitment to service.
